    FOUNDED: June 9, 1894

    ORIGIN OF BOROUGH: Pitcairn began on the sitges of the McGinnis, Toohill and Wall farms as a boomtown to accommodate families arriving to work at the new railroad classification yards, engine house and car repair shops. It first was called Walurba and later named for Robert Pitcairn, superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
