FOUNDED: 1895.
ORIGIN OF BOROUGH:George Washington and Christopher Gist blazed the first colonial route through what would become East Pittsburgh. The first small community settlements were in Port Perry and Brinton. The principal town plot was adopted in October 1890, though part of the First Ward had been laid out about 20 years earlier in what was called the "Patrick Plan." The building of the town followed factory construction in 1894.
