Menhorn hits 1,000-point plateau at Pitt-Greensburg

Latrobe graduate and Pitt-Greensburg junior guard Tiffany Menhorn posted her 1,000th career point Jan. 17, becoming the fourth women's basketball player in the school's history to do so.

Helping pace the Lady Bobcats to a 73-54 win over Penn State-Altoona, Menhorn needed 15 points in the contest to secure her spot in the school's record books.

She posted a game-high 21 points, including 16 in the first half. She hit the milestone on a free throw with five minutes remaining.

Menhorn now has 202 points on the season to go along with 81 rebounds and a team-best 43 assists.

Menhorn is majoring in self-design at Pitt-Greensburg.

• California (Pa.) junior guard James Hairston (Connellsville) has scored 144 points during 16 games this season and is shooting a team-best 84 percent from the free-throw line.

• Thiel senior forward Fontella Jones (Farrell) scored 11 points and pulled down four rebounds, as the Tomcats fell to Washington & Jefferson, 74-57, on Jan. 20. Jones now has 131 points on the season to go with 10 blocks and 25 steals.

• Wentworth senior forward Cheyenne Noble (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored 17 points to go with nine rebounds, six assists and six steals, as his team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 93-64 win over Anna Maria on Jan. 20.

• Duquesne senior forward Loui Hall (Albert Gallatin) has a team-high 215 points and 111 rebounds in 16 games this season.

Wrestling

In the East Coast Duals on Jan. 20 at Pitt-Johnstown, Gannon junior A.J. Sayles (Belle Vernon) defeated Belmont Abbey's Philip Bliss with 6-3 decision at the 165-pound weight class, while freshman Zack McKendree (Kiski Area) defeated Newberry's Jesse Creed with a 5-0 decision at 157 pounds.

Track and Field

Thiel freshman LaToya Locke (Farrell) performed a jump of 34-2 in the triple jump to solidify second place at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-January Meet on Jan. 20 in Berea, Ohio. In the same event, sophomore Alex Bue (Kiski Area) took second place in the high jump with a leap of 6-2.

Ice Hockey

St. Vincent's Matt Ward (Greensburg Central Catholic) was named the MVP of the College Hockey East All-Star game Jan. 13 at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont. Ward scored two goals and dished out three assists to help the South Division take its fourth All-Star game victory in a row over the North Division. Ward continues to lead the College Hockey East in points with 31.
