Sophomore guard B.J. Monteiro has been reinstated to the Duquesne University basketball team after larceny charges stemming from an incident in his home state of Connecticut were dropped today.

Duquesne coach Ron Everhart had suspended Monteiro on Oct. 6 after Monteiro and two others, including a juvenile, were arrested three days earlier and charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny in connection with the theft of a laptop computer, iPod and cash with a total value of $1,400 at a house party Aug. 7 in Torrington, Conn.

"The court proceedings have concluded and B.J. Monteiro will be reinstated to the men's basketball team tomorrow," Everhart said.

The first official day of college basketball practice is Friday.

Monteiro's attorney, William L. Stevens, notified Everhart today of the decision regarding Monteiro's case.

"B.J.'s case is finally concluded, and he continues to have a clean criminal record," Stevens wrote in a fax to the coach.

The 6-foot-5 Monteiro, of Middletown, Conn., averaged 3.3 points in 30 games, including five starts, as a freshman last season at Duquesne. He is the all-time leading scorer at Crosby High School in Waterbury, Conn., and was named the Connecticut high school player of the year in 2007-08.
