Harvard shocks Boston College

BOSTON -- Jeremy Lin scored 27 points to lead Harvard to an 82-70 upset over No. 17 Boston College on Wednesday night, coming after the Eagles upset previously top-ranked North Carolina in their last game.

The Eagles (13-3), who had their 10-game winning streak snapped, defeated the unbeaten Tar Heels, 85-78, in Chapel Hill on Sunday for one of the school's biggest regular-season wins to move into the Top 25.

Corey Raji paced Boston College with 16 points, Tyrese Rice added 14 and Joe Trapani had 12. Rice was held to three points until the final four minutes.

Oliver McNally had 19 points, and Andrew Pusar scored 13 for the Crimson (8-6), who had lost 15 of their past 16 games against the Eagles. Lin added eight assists before fouling out with about a minutes left.

No. 11 Syracuse 85, DePaul 68 -- Andy Rautins scored 17 points, and Paul Harris added 14 to lead six Syracuse players in double figures in a home win.

It was the sixth consecutive victory for Syracuse (15-1, 3-0 Big East) and the third consecutive loss for DePaul (8-8, 0-3).

Dar Tucker led the Blue Demons with 18 points, Will Walker added 13, Mac Koshwal had 12 and Devin Hill had 10.

Arinze Onuaku had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Eric Devendorf finished with 13 points, Jonny Flynn had 12 and Rick Jackson had 11 for the Orange.

Rautins hit five 3-pointers to give him 25 over the past four games.

Syracuse used an early 12-2 run to open a double-digit lead, and the Blue Demons struggled with costly turnovers and never recovered.

No. 18 Marquette 81, Rutgers 76 -- Wesley Matthews scored 23 points, hitting all 10 of his shots, to lead Marquette in Piscataway, N.J.

Jerel McNeal added 16 points, and Dominic James had 15 for the Golden Eagles (14-2), who won their sixth consecutive in starting 3-0 in the Big East for the first time since joining the conference in 2005.

Mike Rosario scored 22 to lead Rutgers (9-7, 0-3), which dropped its fourth consecutive. The freshman helped the Scarlet Knights' rally, as Rutgers sliced a 21-point deficit to two with 37 seconds remaining. Corey Chandler added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Knights.

Marquette opened its largest lead at 57-36 with 12:21 remaining before Rutgers put on a furious charge and got within 73-71.

But Lazar Hayward, who had 10 points, and McNeal each made two free throws to increase the advantage to 77-71 with 25.2 left.

No. 23 Louisville 71, S. Florida 57 -- Earl Clark scored 22 points, and Louisville shut down South Florida in Tampa, Fla., during a key eight-minute stretch of the second half to pull away in the Cardinals' conference opener.

Taking up the slack with leading scorer Samardo Samuels on the bench in foul trouble much of the game, Clark made 8-of-18 shots and finished with a team-leading nine rebounds. Edgar Sosa added 12 points for the Cardinals (10-3, 1-0 Big East).

Dominique Jones led South Florida (5-9, 0-2) with 11 points, but he missed 9-of-10 shots from the field and wasn't on the floor at the end, when Bulls reserves scored 10 points in the final 1:03 to make the final score look a little more respectable.

District women

Cincinnati 61, West Virginia 55 -- Kahla Roudebush scored a game-high 24 points and made 8-of-10 free throws to lead Cincinatti (12-3, 2-0 Big East) in Morgantown, W.Va.

Liz Repella scored 19 points for West Virginia (10-4, 0-2), which led by five at halftime. Sarah Miles and Takisha Granberry each added14 points for the Mountaineers.
