MONONGAHELA - Police Chief Brian Tempest has gone on record as saying that whenever the Washington County Drug Task Force comes to town, it doesn't leave empty-handed.

That streak remained intact this morning as the task force charged a New Eagle man with selling heroin.

Banchar Chuahong, 41, of 420 Main St., was picked up this morning by the county drug task force and was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of communication facilities.

Chuahong was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson, of Monongahela, and taken to the Washington County Corrections Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight-cash bond.

Tempest extended his thanks to the continued efforts of the county drug task force, headed by Washington County District Attorney Steven Toprani.

"Since Steven Toprani and his drug task force have been coming to town, we've been able to take a lot of serious drug dealers off the streets," Tempest said. "Their efforts are greatly appreciated."

He noted that the investigation into Chuahong was on-going for two months before his arrest.

Tempest described Chuahong as a "mid-level" narcotics dealer.

Since January, 28 suspected drug dealers have been charged in the Monongahela-New Eagle area, Tempest said.

"We hope that one of these days we won't have to be making these arrests, but while we do, we will continue to work towards them," Tempest said.
