Paul Myers, Bentworth High School
"The university offers me much more than an education," Myers said. "It offers me the opportunity to learn how to be an individual who can utilize technology to advance society, both now and in the future."
He says he will learn the ins and outs of computer networking and then apply this knowledge integrating computer systems at various schools in the area.
Ranking right up there with computers is Myers' love of sports.
"I've played sports ever since I can remember," he said. "The best part of playing sports is being on different teams that have distinct personalities."
Sports has been a great teacher, providing important challenges, Myers said.
"I may not always be the tallest, strongest or fastest, but I've learned that I can be successful if I outwork my opponents.
"I know that if my intensity is not there, I cannot play well."
He says he would love to play baseball at California. If not the varsity team, then junior varsity. "Just so I may be part of the college team," he said.
Baseball was his primary sport at Bentworth. In fact, he gave up basketball after his junior year in order to concentrate more completely on baseball.
Third base was his position. Fielding was his calling card.
"I worked hard at it," Myers said. "You have to work hard at anything to be good at it."
