Plum Council hires new solicitor for civil service commission
Plum Council has hired a new solicitor for the borough's civil service commission whose first order of business will be updating the commission's regulations.
Council hired Mike Adams of Adams & Foley in Jefferson Hills. Adams will replace W. Timothy Barry & Associates, which has been the commission's solicitor for about seven years.
The solicitor's rate will be $165 an hour for a principal in the firm and $120 an hour for an associate.
Council President Dave Vento said Adams, who was interviewed by council members, is a better fit for the job.
Council also voted to set aside the current police candidate list.
The move comes in the wake of a civil service commission ruling that overturned a council decision to disqualify a candidate for a patrol position. The candidate, who was not identified, appealed the disqualification to the commission.
Council members have declined comment on why they disqualified the candidate.
"It is frustrating to go through the process (of hiring) again," Vento said. "But it is in the best interest of the community to hire the best police officers possible."
