Renovations at Springdale Junior-Senior High School will be delayed about one month, school directors say.

Director Joseph Gajdosik said the contractors hired for the project won't begin work until Jan. 4. He said there are several items that construction officials need to attend to before they can break ground.

Board President Scott Redman described the reasons for delay as "minor details." He indicated that contractors haven't received a needed construction permit from Springdale.

However, Redman said he doesn't expect problems in getting the permit.

"I don't think this is anything major," he said.

Redman said he also doesn't expect the delay to affect the overall project timetable.

District and construction officials said last month that crews expected to break ground Dec. 7. The overall project should be completed by August 2011, although the officials set different deadlines for the various project phases.

Crews will erect a new D Wing and build a new multipurpose room that will serve primarily as a gym, a new maintenance building and an addition to the kitchen.

Directors have awarded $13.5 million in contracts for the work.

As for the borough permit, Springdale Councilman Mitch Karaica said it has been approved and ready for about a week. The $62,000 permit simply needs to be paid for, he said.

In other business:

• The board welcomed four new members: Salvatore Conte and Larry Pollick of Cheswick, Jeanne Haas of Springdale Township and Annetta Jursa of Springdale Borough.

Conte is the only member of the group who has served on the board before.

• The board reappointed Redman as president and Tina Logue-Holka as vice president.
